More than 800 pre-owned bikes are looking for a new home.

A beautiful Sunday morning at 10 a.m. on the Spielbudenplatz.

Bargain hunters, tinkerers, tourists, private buyers and vendors as well as professional merchants are browsing through hundreds of bikes. People are busy checking bells, spinning front wheels and inspecting gears. The air is humming – everyone is swapping opinions while hunting for the perfect bike. And the organisers of Fietsenbörse are right in the middle of this hustle and bustle.

A couple of years ago, Christoph Forsting, founder of Fietsenbörse, decided to buy a second-hand bike.

But none of his friends were able to recommend the right place to buy it. And it goes without saying that a stolen bike was not an option. Thus, a problem was turned into an idea: to create a market place for pre-owned bikes – including an independent assessment and a sales contract. It turns out Christoph wasn’t the only one facing this problem: today, Fietsenbörse bike markets are available in six cities across Germany.

And this is how bikes are sold at the Fietsenbörse market.

Tourer, mountain bike, racer, or vintage piece?

In Hamburg you can choose from a rich choice of pre-owned bikes.

With some of the strangest inventions among them. While there is always the chance that a stolen bike can leak through, the Fietsenbörse organisers know most of the vendors and tinkerers personally. Plus, on each of the sales contracts you will find the personal data of the individual selling the bike. This certainly minimises the risk involved.

Time for the next Fietsenbörse market.
